Major Trend Alert: Wide Leg Cropped Pants

They are all the rage in workwear but also for weekend looks, too! Why? They are a fun alternative to the traditional skinny pant and are oh so flattering. Lots of women, particularly petite women, think they can’t pull off this trend, but you can. Here’s how:

  1. Proportions are everything – Pair your wide leg pants with a more fitted top for a perfectly balanced silhouette. Remember the rule of thirds? This is your bestie when playing around with different shapes. If you stick to this rule you are golden. Don’t know what I’m talking about? The rule of thirds is a phenomenon that the most aesthetically pleasing look is one that is divided into 1/3 and 2/3. Let me make it plain. This is why high-waisted anything is so flattering. It’s why you often see fashionistas rock the tucked in look. It’s to create the ratios that are the most pleasing to the eye.
  2. Being taller doesn’t hurt – Adding a little height is never a bad idea. By using the rule of thirds you create the illusion of a longer leaner figure. Throwing on your favorite pumps literally makes you taller. Opt for both for a fool proof way to rock wide leg pants.
  3. Use color to your advantage – If you are looking to disguise your mid section go for darker colors and materials with less stretch. This will move attention away from this area and create a more slimming effect.

Wide leg cropped pants are a super fun and chic way to spruce up your work wardrobe. I love this plaid pair because the pattern creates interest and they are super affordable! I chose to wear mine with a neutral lightweight knit and a camel coat for visual interest (and warmth lol).
