Trenched in Sophistication

When I think of trench coats I think of two things: 1) detectives, and 2) legit business women. At first I was hesitant to invest in a trench coat. I think I was in denial about the entering the corporate world full-time. Only real adults wear trench coats. I didn't want to be a real adult ...

Red With Energy

Top: Topshop || Pants: Banana Republic || Earrings: Similar here

I wore this exact outfit to work the other day and got so many compliments. The top is so effortlessly good with split sleeves and low maintenance material (what’s an iron?). I’m wearing it with (yep you guessed it) my fave banana pants and these super fun multi colored tassel earrings.

However along with the compliments came a lot of controversy. Is it red or is it orange? We couldn’t come to a unanimous decision but I’m leaning towards red. Anyways it got me thinking about how the colors we wear can affect the mood of those around us. There is a ton of physiological research on colors. Did you know that red actually evokes feelings of passion, power, and energy? You mean I can change how people perceive me just by the color I wear? Um hello sign me up!

How to Mix Prints

Top: Loft || Pants: Similar here and here || Earrings: Sheila Fajl

Mixing prints used to be a huge fashion faux pas and truth be told I have no idea why. I mean come on how cute is this! Now dont get me wrong, this combination definitely pushes boundaries, but it totally works! Pairing a large print with a smaller print, and keeping accessories minimal is the key.

Now about this top – it is so fun and versatile. I’m a big fan of the yellow and navy color combo but add in a bunch of polka dots and statement sleeves and I’m in heaven. I love finding pieces I can wear at work and on the weekend. Here I’ve dressed it up with a polka dot wide leg pant and nude pumps, but I can easily see myself wearing this on a Casual Friday with denim and flats. How do you incorporate prints into your work wardrobe?

A New Twist On A Classic

Top: Nordstrom || Pants: Banana Republic || Shoes: Sam Edelman || Necklace: Madewell || Earrings: Sheila Fajl

You know what I love about a good ole button up? They are classic, never go out of style, and look super put together. What I don’t love is that they can sometimes look and feel stuffy, restricting, and uncomfortable – boo. This one is perfect. Oversized enough to be comfy, but has a clean collar and sweet knot detail on the sleeve. STAHP. So dang cute. I’m wearing this shirt tucked into my go-to Banana pants in olive and the most adorable tassel mules. Clean, simple, fresh. Perfect for spring, perfect for work.

The Best Everyday Work Pants

Pants: Banana Republic || Top: Topshop || Shoes: Similar here

I have looked high and low, searched far and wide, but no work pants compare to these. The Banana Republic Sloans are without a doubt the best everyday work pants I’ve tried. They are a skinny fit, ankle length pant that are on trend and totally workplace appropriate. They have a little stretch making them super comfy but even after multiple wears still maintain a tailored, professional look which means less trips to the dry cleaner (cha-ching)!

The Perfect Spring Transition Sweater

Sweater: Madewell || Earrings: Madewell || Jeans: Paige || Mules: Similar here

I adore this sweater. It’s perfect for this crazy Richmond weather. One day it’s like we’re in tropics the next we’re back in the frozen tundra. Not to fear, this sweater was made to be the perfect transition piece. It’s so soft and happy, but the tier sleeves take it over the top. I added some fun tassel earrings that are almost the same color. Usually I’m not into matchy matchy, but when you’re wearing a color this cute, the more the better! I’ve paired it with favorite black denim and leopard mules – perfect for casual Friday in the office or a weekend lunch date

Power Pants

Pants: Who What Wear || Blazer: Nordstrom Rack || Top: Similar here

Ever found a piece of clothing that you put on and instantly felt more powerful? For me it’s these pants. I’m obsessed. I love how they conform to a classic conservative color palette, but the bold stripes, and relaxed fit give them a certain edge. I paired them with a lace trim camisole and white blazer for a feminine, yet balanced look that is office approved.

They are part of the Who What Wear line at Target and I’m just completely goo goo gah gah for this line in general. All of the pieces are classic with a modern twist – perfect for the workplace! And did I mention these pants are under $40. I repeat, under $40. Run, do not walk!
